Petaluma Youth Lacrosse Basic Offense and Defense Set up (2012 Season)

Defense-Slides (From Top) Emphasize communication amongst the defense. Goalie should have the defense check in and declare their jobs. This slide demonstrates the communicate and slide. (not to scale) Check in !! I go!! Im hot

Slides (From X) Another example but with an attack from the crease. Check in !! I go!! Im hot

Clears Good set up is key on clears. You must practice clears in order to get the assignments down. Midfielders must get open and look back at goalie.

Clears Two defenders break out at GLE Midfielders break out to open space by mid-line and cross Long Pole runs an arc up the middle Additional midfield heads up field for transition

Offense

Offense-Motion Offense (From X) 1)Work the ball around one or two times to engage the defense and determine holes (jumpy defenders, slow reaction, etc). 2)Determine a signal for the motion offense (i.e. player taps their helmet. A simply visual sign works better then verbal, as it can be misunderstood with a mouth-piece. If verbal, make it distinct, short and easy to understand. (Can also be a move, like a reset to the top of the box) 3)Once enacted the offense at top moved clockwise in rotation, the offense at GLE and below move counter- clockwise

Motion Offense (From X)(Animated) 1)Move the ball 2) Signal 3) Motion offense (one clockwise the other counter- clockwise) 4) Exploit Opportunities

Basic Offense (2-3-1 –Triangle Offense) 1)2-3-1 Offense Good for : Weak defensive matchups (over-committed defense) Wing attacks Good support up top. Defense Note: Good communication and slide discipline can keep a offense at bay.

Less Basic Offense (1-4-1) 1)1-4-1Offense Good for : Running isolation offense, when pulling defense on slides. Provides congestion in front of crease for picks and screens Defense Note: Sticks up d, and play zone, with an adjacent slide.

No Offense Taken (2-2-2) 1)2-2-2 Offense Good for : Creating space for open shots. Equal pressure on defense. Opportunity to test goalie skills Defense Note: Focus on slides, and matchups. Take advantage of fast transitions on clears. Take advantage of fast transitions on clears.

Lastly…. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
