Community Broadcasting Foundation (aka CBF) Specialist Radio Programming Grant (aka Content Grant) July 2019 to June 2020

What is the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) What is the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF)? An agency that distributes Federal Government funding to community radio stations for community broadcasting. They are CMS Radio’s main source of annual income. What has changed about the new grant system? It is more complex and competitive.

Your funding application for next financial year (July 2019 to June 2020); Requires Station’s provide proof of consultation Requires us to agree to the amount we are applying for Requires us to share information about equipment purchased with grant funds Requires us to remind you of your obligations in receiving funding from the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF)

If you are a new program there are additional steps, including; Providing a 1 hour pilot of your program. Answering a series of questions regarding your program’s content and purpose. After this is complete, the processes we discuss today will apply. Kerri will be working with these groups individually to assist with this process.

Proof of consultation This meeting. Anyone who could not send a representative to this meeting, or anyone here who needs more information, can make an individual appointment with Kerri anytime between 10am-3pm Tuesday or Friday, until Tuesday 26 February. Late appointment requests or submission cannot be accepted. Returning your ‘wish-list’ to Kerri by Tuesday 26 February.

Requires us to agree to the amount we are applying for This financial year (June 2018 – July 2019), over two grant rounds, we were offered $54,327.00 in total. ALL of this money has been allocated between CMS language groups. We tend to receive more funding when new programs start (4 new programs this year). For our upcoming application I recommend we apply collectively for $50,000 - $55,000. Do you agree? All who attended meeting 2 February 2019 agreed. Quorum was present.

2. Requires us to agree to the amount we are applying for Complete your ‘wish-list’ as per the following steps; Take your total from this financial year’s (2018-2019) allocation and distribute it among the items on your ‘wish-list’. Specify, quantify and justify your requests. If you need additional funding for something, explain why. Return a signed copy to Kerri by Tuesday 26 February.

On termination of your program you are legally obliged to return these items to the Station.

Requires us to remind you of your obligations in receiving funding from the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) 1.       Acknowledging CBF during your program, i.e. “This program was made possible with support from the Community Broadcasting Foundation. To support the production of content like this, donate at cbf.com.au” or see https://cbf.org.au/grants/acknowledging/ for further guidance on this, 2.       be on air throughout the funding period, 3.       produce your program locally, 4.       broadcast regularly; at least one hour per week between 6am-1am (i.e. not overnight) for the entire funding period (we need to notify CBF if there are any changes here and it may impact your eligibility for funding), 5.       a minimum of 80% specialist programming material including culturally relevant music, 6.       have a minimum of 40% spoken word content or musical content broadcast live or recorded by the station that covers social, cultural and political issues of importance to your community, and news and information relevant to cultural and language maintenance, with an emphasis on local perspectives.

Your claims for THIS financial year (2018-2019); You can claim at any time until Monday 27 May 2019 – the sooner the better! Please note, late submissions will not be accepted. Keep and submit ALL your receipts, even if it is for something you have not been fully funded for. After Monday 27 May, the office will go through receipts received and redistribute any unclaimed funds among members. Any surplus thereafter will either be expended by the office or returned to CBF.
