Progress in the work of the EG on WS&D SCG 7 November 2012

AGREED INDICATORS The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) to detect and quantify meteorological drought situations The fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Solar Radiation (fAPAR) to assess drought impacts on vegetation The Water Exploitation Index Plus (WEI+) provides an indication of the pressure on the water resources of a certain territory

Indicators under development Snowpack: final factsheet is ready - expected to be agreed at the next EG meeting (December) Streamflow (SRI): the factsheet has been updated - expected to be agreed at the next EG meeting Soil moisture & Groundwater:The factsheet is being updated and the EG will decide whether to adopt the indicators or whether to postpone them to the next CIS

OTHER TASKS OF THE EG A paper on best practices in management indicators is being developed – MS invited to provide case examples First proposal for a guidance on development of Risk maps under development - will be available for comments by EG until end November Topic Report on WS&D in RBMPs – final changes being integrated. MS invited to submit any additional data & comments asap Eflows paper has been discussed at Ecostat, GW & AGRI CIS groups - positive feedback
