Collaboration Nice to get to know each other (Trainee) Have all learnt from each other (Trainee) Really good to form links as well … we’ll still communicate and ask for advice which is so valuable. (Trainee) One of main benefits – coming here and working as part of a group (Trainee)
Placement Some peoples workplaces are better for that than others, whereas this way you all get the same exposure or the same kind of learning (Trainee) [If it wasn’t for the academy] I’d have had to drop out, because work would have pulled me out, because they wouldn’t have been able to support me (Trainee) They’ve had more reporting time in the academy which is good because I don’t think [trainee] would have got that in the department (Mentor) especially during the early stages of training, that has freed my time up (Mentor) We could not pull back. So there was a little lack of flexibility (Manager)
Advanced Practice It’s not just about reporting, [trainee has] come back with knowledge about protocols (Manager) They’ve come out having done presentations, with teaching skills, with a broader knowledge of advanced practice …it’s probably moved that process forwards by a year or 2 (Mentor)

Career framework
Practitioner vs Advanced Here does ‘reporting radiographer’ fit? National standards SCoR HEE
ACP Advanced Clinical Practice is delivered by experienced registered healthcare practitioners. It is a level of practice characterised by a high level of autonomy and complex decision-making. This is underpinned by a masters level award or equivalent that encompasses the four pillars of clinical practice, management and leadership, education and research, with demonstration of core and area specific clinical competence. Advanced Clinical Practice embodies the ability to manage complete clinical care in partnership with patients/carers. It includes the analysis and synthesis of complex problems across a range of settings, enabling innovative solutions to enhance patient experience and improve outcomes. (HEE 2017)
