If You Harvest arXiv.org, Will They Come? Michael L. Nelson, Johan Bollen Old Dominion University, Department of Computer Science, Norfolk VA 23529 USA, {mln,jbollen}@cs.odu.edu We examined which NASA Technical Report Server (NTRS) repositories received the most downloads during the first 15 months after NTRS was converted to OAI-PMH. In particular, we were interested in the new collection development policy of including non-NASA scientific, technology and medicine (STM) repositories. Full-text Downloads in NTRS NTRS Simple Search NTRS Advanced Search We found: 3 of the 4 non-NASA repositories in NTRS contributed few downloads, despite their large holdings. Aeronautical Research Council (UK) was accessed frequently, presumably because of its aeronautics focus. arXiv.org’s presence, despite being the most well-known OAI-PMH repository, did not guarantee its use in NTRS.
