Integers in the Real World Mini-Poster Choose a real world situation with negative and positive numbers. Draw the scene and include a number line. Select an object in the positive space and an object in the negative space. Label the locations of these objects. Find the distance between the objects.

The distance between the palm tree and buried treasure is 140 ft because |60| + |-80| = 140.

The fish is at -20 ft, or 20 ft below sea level. The bird is at 35 ft. The fish is at -20 ft, or 20 ft below sea level. The distance between the fish and bird is 55 ft because each space on the number line is worth 5 ft and there are 11 spaces from 35 to -20, so 5 x 11 = 55 ft.
