CELL DIVISION
INTRODUCTION TO THE TOPIC: Cells increase in number by a process called CELL DIVISION.During cell division a cell divides into two passes its genetic information to the next generation. There are two major types of cell division, namely MITOSIS MEIOSIS
INTERPHASE: Interphase is the preparatory phase of cell division. During this stage D.N.A undergoes replication in the nucleus.
MITOSIS: Mitosis is the common type of cell division.During mitosis parent cell divides into daughter cells, each with the same number of chromosomes as found in the parent cell. There are four stages in the mitosis; Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase
CYTOKINESIS IN PLANT CELL AND ANIMAL CELL: In plant cell the cytoplasmic division is marked by the appearance of a cell plate. It begins as a faint line at the equator gradually develops into a cell wall, dividing the parent cell into two daughter cells In animal cells it occurs by a pinching in process,as if a string is tightened around the middle of a cell. This groove is called cleavage furrow.
MEIOSIS AND ITS TYPES: The reduction in the number of chromosomes from a diploid to haploid condition is known as meiosis. In meiosis there are two types ; Meiosis1 Meiosis2
