Can you think of any examples of nationalism?

Nationalism: good or bad? Do you believe that nationalism is a good or bad thing? Why? An example to consider: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA0A0ymd0CM&NR=1

History of the Pledge of Allegiance Original version was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy for a youth magazine to commemorate 400th anniversary of Columbus’ discovery of America “I pledge allegiance to my flag and the Republic for which it stands -- One nation indivisible -- with liberty and justice for all”

Changes to the Pledge 1923: changed “my flag” to “the flag of the United States of America” Recognized by Congress in 1942 but Supreme Court ruled in 1943 that students could not be forced to say the pledge 1954: words “under God” are added by President Eisenhower at the height of the Cold War

Pledge as we know it: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag, of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, One Nation under God Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for All."

Eisenhower: "In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource in peace and war."
