Windows Interior Design 3.04

Would you like a room without any windows? Why or why not? What purpose do windows serve? To let in natural light To allow people inside to see outside To allow of airflow or ventilation

Window Types 1. Fixed Window Stationary; do not open Allows light to come in Stained glass windows are fixed windows Window treatments are not used with stained glass windows

2. Double-Hung Sashes open from the top and bottom

3. Bay Window Window built to project outward from an outside wall. Adds additional space inside a room Admits more light than a window flat against the wall. Usually in three angled segments The center segment is often larger Can be a mixture of fixed and opening windows

4. Casement Window Hinged at the side May open and close with a crank but some unlatch and swing open Swing outward

5. Awning Window Awning windows swing outward at the bottom. Provide protection from rain

6. Palladian Window A large window consisting of a central arched section flanked by two narrow rectangular sections. Can be a combination of fixed and working

7. Sliding Window Operation is similar to a sliding door
