Project 3: Development of Wireless Gas Detectors REU Student: Jose Vigil Graduate mentors: Chris Hughes, Xiaochen Wang Faculty Mentor(s): Dr. Hyoung Jin Cho Week 1 (May 23 – May 27, 2016) Accomplishments: Read two research papers and a section of a book. Started learning to use the language of the Mathematica Software Understanding why the use of Raspberry Pi 3 Attended the group meeting with Dr. Cho and the graduate students Issues/problems encountered and solutions (if any): Confused on how to convert from Mathematica into a language that Raspberry will read such as (Python or C)
Research Secure Sensor Node with Raspberry Pi (Google scholar) Raspberry Pi as Internet of Things hardware: Performances and Constraints (Google Scholar) They created a network for a security sensor including a Raspberry Pi via Bluetooth Security system in the health industry to detect and be notified by cellphone when a patient falls.(Not commercial at the moment.) Similar to Project- The wireless connection and transfer of data to another device. Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is a Wi-fi model. Different Shields can be accommodated for different purposes. Low Energy consumption Compared to Arduino it is many times faster.
Project Overview Plans for next week: Continue reading and practicing writing code.
