Kent State University -- College of Nursing Subject Area Common To All Campuses Undergraduate and Graduate Degree Programs Associate Degree in Nursing (2 year Ashtabula, East Liverpool, Geauga, and Tuscarawas) Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) First year all eight campuses. Second year at Kent, Ashtabula, Salem, Stark, and Trumbull campuses. Senior-level nursing courses are available at all campuses via interactive computer technology. Kent State University -- Ebooks ebook Vendor selection and evaluation Vendor evaluation process Context of nursing, decided leasing instead buying was a better deal Ebrary selected 1,700 titles leased in nursing and allied health. Costs shared equally among regional campus libraries (680 FTE), Kent campus paid twice the amount (1160 FTE) Ebrary platform could accommodate other disciplines

Kent State University – YBP Approval Plan Project Process and Development Financial Commitments Selection Assignments Review / Analysis Future growth and expansion http://www.snee.com/bobdc.blog/img/howididit.jpg

Kent State University – YBP Approval Plan Financial Commitments KSU Library Expenditures for Nursing (2004-2007) Number of Pooled Purchases = 721 Campus Money Spent Ave/Year Money Committed Number of Purchases (3yr) % of Pooled Purchases Ashtabula $ 5,369.00 $ 1,789.67 $ 2,000.00 97 18% East Liverpool   $ 1,618.00 $ 1,500.00 74 13% Geauga 25 Kent $ 30,236.00 $ 10,078.67 $ 10,000.00 417 Salem $ 1,497.00 $ 499.00 $ 1,000.00 158 9% Stark 160 Trumbull $ 5,176.45 $ 1,725.48 $ 1,300.00 86 12% Tuscarawas $ 3,600.00 $ 1,200.00 121 Totals $ 51,247.45 $ 18,700.48 $ 21,300.00 1138 100%

Kent State University – YBP Approval Plan Financial Commitments Financial Commitment Formula: $FC <= Past X Years Expenditures X $FC <= $5,176.45 3 (Trumbull Campus) $FC = $1,200.00

Kent State University – YBP Approval Plan Selection Assignments Looked at campuses with unique Nursing/Allied Health related programs (Physical Therapy, Radiology, Vet Tech, etc.) Those campuses responsible for selecting and housing titles in those specific subjects Traipsed through LC classification system and assigned areas for selection Assigned selection responsibilities based on past purchasing habits, expertise, anticipated local needs, etc. Housing of titles would be done through randomization (based on the % of financial commitment) Kent Campus current profile plugged in Selecting and housing titles profiled as Advanced Academic (Regional Campus selections defined as Basic Academic or Professional) Removed Nursing from each campus’ existing YBP profiles As the cooperative profile develops, individual profiles get folded into the cooperative plan

Kent State University – YBP Approval Plan Selection Assignments SELECTOR  LC CLASS  SUBJECT PURCHASES Campus R Medicine (General) Asht Eastl Geaug Kent Salem Stark Trumb Tusca Tuscarawas 1-722 General History 3   4  8 10 723-726 Philosophy. Kent State University – YBP Approval Plan Selection Assignments Housing (“ownership”) of titles would be done through randomization (based on the % of financial commitment) Randomization Factor (RF) Formula: RF(%) = FC $Total Pool RF(%) = $2,000 $11,000 (Stark Campus) RF(%) = 18%

Kent State University – YBP Approval Plan Review and Analysis Titles included in our profile if it were in place first 9 months last year Campus Fund code # of Slips Cost Prorated Estimated Cost Ashtabula NURS-1 3 $ 178 $ 269 NURS-ASH East Liverpool NURS-2 14 $ 431 $ 654 NURS-LIV Geauga NURS-3 1 $ 122 $ 185 NURS-GEA Salem NURS-4 6 $ 319 $ 484 NURS-SAL Stark NURS-5 2 $ 73 $ 111 NURS-STA Trumbull NURS-6 $ 526 $ 798 NURS-TRU Tuscarawas NURS-7 $ 12 $ 18 NURS-TUS Total 41 $ 1663 $ 2519 Revised Commitments Campus Ashtabula $ 453.42 18% East Liverpool $ 327.47 13% Geauga Salem $ 226.71 9% Stark Trumbull $ 302.28 12% Tuscarawas $ 2519.23 Final commitment = $2,800 (Divided evenly among the 7 Regional Campuses = $400 per campus) Simplifies randomization

Kent State University – YBP Approval Plan Review and Analysis Number of Books Delivered (NOBD) Formula: NOBD = RF% X Total Books Selected NOBD = 9% X 41 (Salem Campus) NOBD = 4

Looking Ahead Monitor first year of project Start looking at other disciplines The Next Discipline (English?) Cooperative Ownership The concept of housing a particular title goes away … as books as requested they remain at the last library that used it (depends on enhancements to KentLINK (KSU’s ILS). Over time it is expected that books would end up where they are most needed.
