Appositives

Definition -An appositive is a noun that renames another noun in a sentence -An appositive can have other adjectives or prep phrases with it -It comes right after the noun it describes

Definition continued -An appositive is able to replace the noun it renames because they are equal -An appositive can be removed from a sentence without a problem because it’s extra information -Commas should go around the appositive if it provides unnecessary information

Some reasons to use appositives To add more information about a noun into a sentence in a short, easy way To explain what something means To give the name of a person in addition to a detail about them
