13 Colonies Vocab Dissenter- people whose beliefs differed from the official religion in their country Plantations- very large farms Cash crops- crops grown mainly for sale to other colonies or countries Manifest Destiny- the idea that the country should expand across the continent Civil Rights Movement- movement for equality that began in the 1960’s Oppression – to keep down by the cruel or unjust use of power; rule harshly
