The Tang Dynasty ruled China from 618 to 907. Emperor Taizong of Tang (founder of the Tang Dynasty )

Under the Tang Dynasty, China expanded foreign trade, renovated the canal system, and established a strict social structure. Grand Canal Civil Service Exams

China also invented block printing, gun powder, the mechanical clock, and a small pox vaccine.

The Song Dynasty ruled China from 960 to 1279. Emperor Taizu of Song (founder of the Song Dynasty )

Under the Song Dynasty, China maintained expanded foreign trade and began cultivating rice.

China also invented the compass, movable-type printing machines, the spinning wheel, and perfected porcelain making.

During the centuries of dynastic rule, China rejected other cultures as inferior to their own.

This illustrated the concept of ethnocentrism, which China could embrace because of its geographic isolation from the rest of the world.

China was able to remain isolated until the 19th century.
