Humanities Curriculum Students will learn grade-level Common Core standards in Social Studies and writing with an emphasis on the 4C’s: Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration Resources Interactive Notebooks Primary and Secondary Source documents Online Research Google Classroom
Interactive notebooks Chronicle the learning taking place in class Right-side pages “input” from the teacher Left-side pages Demonstration of understanding by the student “output”
Ela and humanities connection Mrs. Pardee and I will be working closely together to support one another in each subject area This collaboration will help students prepare for Project Based Learning (PBL) PBL: a learning method in which students work together and gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to a complex question, problem, or challenge Many of the topics covered in Humanities will be covered in ELA-but from a Language Arts perspective
7th Grade PBL: distribution of wealth and natural resources In Humanities, to prepare for the PBL Groups will be created Students will research and analyze how different cultures defined wealth and how wealth has been acquired Students will look at our present society and determine what we consider wealth today and how wealth is acquired Students will receive individual and group grades for assignments associated with the PBL Visit www.bie.org for more information about PBL
Technology in humanities Students will use technology often in Humanities All essays will be submitted through Google Classroom, as well as some class/homework assignments Each student has received a district student email to use for all electronic work submissions Students have several options for using technology on campus Teachers Library Jaguar Lab Local library Phones
