Discussion summary (in order of discussion) there is still a need for a “library-like” place for physical storage of media face-to-face human interaction is a very important element in SALL - interaction with” “expert”, peer, conversation partner etc. a SAC acts as a “go-to-point” where IL skills are developed and reinforced by interaction with SAC facilities, media and personnel SALL has not changed, but the materials and technology have; the challenge is to decide how to adapt our SACs to accommodate these there is a need for SACs to offer learners something that they cannot get elsewhere (in a library for example)
there is a need for a place for face-to-face linguistic interaction, both with a teacher/advisor and with peers suggestions were made with regard to the use of Skype for online conferencing and Second Life as a context for a virtual SAC there is a need to offer learners a variety of choices in terms of (for example): - mode of study (face-to-face v online) - topic of study
