Chris’ Developing Sexual Awareness In Chapter 2, Drilling, we see Chris is becoming a woman in knowing what her expected role as a housewife is and developing her sexuality. We see this through how she deals with the Tink and family friends. Chris’ Developing Sexual Awareness

Quote & Analysis Pg 69/70 The Tink. Quote: “Mind if you want me ill be here” Chris shook her head, she felt too sick to speak. Analysis: Chris is aware enough that she knows she doesn’t want to be near him, feel disgusted by his remark and know how she doesn’t want anything to do with him. Quote & Analysis

Quote & Analysis Pg 85 Chris as a housewife Quote: “The kitchens more her style than the College” Analysis: Chris is being told her role in society should be as a housewife not a woman in education no matter how smart she was. ‘The English Chris’ was infuriated by this and mocked them in her head. Quote & Analysis

Quote & Analysis Pg 91 Chris gets kissed by a tink Quote: “You bitch!” Analysis: This shows that Chris is aware she should be more caution as she begins to understand the role of a housewife. Quote & Analysis

Pg.93 Quote: “God Almighty, Chae, you can’t sleep there.” Analysis: This shows that people i.e. Chae threat Chris as an adult instead of a child and Chris also accepts these changes. Quote & Analysis

Pg.99 Quote: “Chris had a great baking to do that night.” Analysis: This quote tells us that she has accepted the role as a housewife and is embracing this into her day to day life. Quote & Analysis

Pg.100 Quote: “And then Chris suddenly knew something and blushed again, sharp and silly.” Analysis: This shows that Chris although taken on the responsibility of a housewife is still immature. Quote & Analysis

Pg.105 Quote: “I don’t know either what’s happening in Peesie’s Knapp but if you’re in such tune about it you’d better go home and find out.” Analysis: This shows that Chris takes her chances and is rude to Mrs Strachan resulting in false gossip. Quote & Analysis

Pg.103/104 Quote: “Get into the house, you white-faced bitch!” Analysis: This highlights the housewife behaviour of Chris was disregarded by her father as she helped clean his wound. Quote & Analysis
