Would you know who to call? Preparing healthcare professionals for involvement in adverse events Free healthcare staff training workshop Provided by Yorkshire and Humber NIHR Patient Safety Translational Research Centre http://yhpstrc.org OVERVIEW: Around 10% of hospital inpatient admissions involve an adverse event. In addition to the suffering these can cause patients and their families, healthcare professionals often experience significant distress. This workshop prepares healthcare professionals for these events: equipping participants with the practical and psychological tools to understand, learn and move forwards. PLEASE CONTACT Alex Paes – Paediatric SpR – for further information alexander.paes@nhs.net The Approach EVIDENCE BASED: Uses techniques from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to help participants develop those skills and abilities which research studies show help individuals to cope better with mistakes. PRACTICAL: Includes information about practical exercises healthcare professionals can engage in to support their wellbeing and resources which can be accessed when adverse events occur. TAILORED: Each workshop is closely tailored to the specific events that individual professional groups are likely to experience in their work. PERSONALISED: In addition to the workshop, each participant will receive a one-to-one 45m follow up phone call after the workshop from their workshop facilitator. WORKSHOP DELIVERED BY: Dr Judith Johnson, Clinical Psychologist & Ruth Simms-Ellis, Occupational Health Psychologist, from the University of Leeds & Yorkshire Quality & Safety Research Group, Bradford Institute for Health Research.
