Essentials of Oral Defense (Business English)

1. Context against what the thesis is set You need to specify the following information: Who you are and where you work: e.g. a staff in a joint venture titled XXX…. What the situation is: e.g. Most of XXX products sold in China are testing equipment & tools, which are used in wells for surveying operations. However, these tools need to be checked and maintained after being operated for hundreds of hours. Customers used to send them abroad to XXX technical service centers in Singapore or UK, which cost them time, labor and money due to the related import and export customs procedures and long distance transportation. Customers always complain about this problem to representatives of XXX.

2. Problem and its analysis You need to specify the following information: The problem: e.g. XXX did not have a technical service center to provide after-sale service to its customers, and the customers often complain about it. The analysis of the problem: e.g. 2.1 Current business situation analysis 2.2 Customer needs and wants analysis 2.3 SWOT analysis

3 . Project objective and hypothesis You need to specify the following information: Project objective(s): e.g. to provide better services to Chinese customers; to increase our sales of products in Chinese business: the increase will be 20% - 30% this year and more in the years to come; to gain new customers Project hypothesis: e.g. It is hypothesized that if sellers provide better after-sale service to their customers, e.g. setting up a repair center, then they can increase their sales volume of products rapidly and obtain new customers.

4. Project design You need to specify the following information: e.g. Activities planned to take place People involved in the activities and their responsibilities Time-scale of the activities Cost consideration Risk analysis concerning people, time and product and our proposed protective measures

5. Project implementation and evaluation You need to specify the following information: Stages of project implementation: Project monitoring 3) Project evaluation

6. Findings and conclusions You need to specify the following information: Findings: e.g. Customers not only want good service, but also immediate service. The establishment of this centre solved this problem to a large extent Conclusion: findings supported my hypothesis

You need to specify the following information: 7. Significance You need to specify the following information: Who benefited from your project and what the benefits are: made a good attempt to improve after-sale service by the setting up of a repair center, both customers and sellers benefit from this, the sales volume witnesses a great increase as a result of it.
