YOU WILL ALSO BE ASKED TO DO SOME SOURCE QUESTIONS….. CAN YOU REMEMBER HOW TO GET THE HIGH LEVELS ON SOURCE QUESTIONS?

WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS IT???? How do I do Sourcework? There are five different types of sourcework question. The first thing to do when confronted with a sourcework question is to establish : WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS IT????

WHAT CAN WE GET OUT OF THE SOURCE? EXTRACTION WHAT CAN WE GET OUT OF THE SOURCE? These are usually used for the smaller easier questions. Look at how many marks it is worth. DO NOT SPEND TOO LONG ON IT!! STEP 1: Describe what the surface information says. STEP 2: See what the source infers. Is there a message between the lines? Is it trying to create an impression?

WHY IS SOURCE X DIFFERENT FROM Y? DIFFERENCES. WHY IS SOURCE X DIFFERENT FROM Y? STEP 1: Look for the obvious surface differences of fact. STEP 2: Look for the obvious surface differences of interpretation. STEP 3: You will need to compare WHO WROTE THEM. It is usually VITAL that you use your own knowledge here. STEP 4: Make sure you come to some sort of conclusion based on the facts.

ACCURACY AND RELIABILITY HOW ACCURATE IS THE SOURCE AS A SOURCE OF INFORMATION? STEP 1: Test the information/ claims against other sources and your own knowledge. Does it give TRUE facts and feelings. STEP 2: Look at SUFFICIENCY. Does it give the whole story? What has it missed? STEP 3: Look at the PROVENANCE. To establish CONTEXT, ORIGIN and MOTIVE.

HOW USEFUL IS THE SOURCE? UTILITY. HOW USEFUL IS THE SOURCE? STEP 1: Look at what the source is telling you and compare it to what you need to know. STEP 2: Look at sufficiency. How much information is there are there gaps? STEP 3: Compare the STRENGTHS against its LIMITATIONS and come to a CONCLUSION.

USE ALL OF THE SOURCES TO DEBATE. REACHING CONCLUSIONS. USE ALL OF THE SOURCES TO DEBATE. STEP 1: Recount relevant surface detail. STEP 2: Realise those sources that support both sides of the argument. STEP 3: Weigh up the evidence and come down one way or another.
