What type of Weather do pressure systems bring?

51L 1. What type of pressure brings precipitation? Remember to record your homelearning and write the objective Work Habits managers - please check 52L/R for completion 51L 1. What type of pressure brings precipitation? 2. Why does warm air rise into the atmosphere? What does cold air do and why? Draw a picture. 3. Does cold air bring high or low pressure? Draw a picture. 4. In the water cycle, after the air rises and evaporates, what happens next?(look at p. 23 in your notebook) Draw a picture.

PAIR SHARE with TABLE TALK MENU- 3 minutes EVEN FIRST, ODD SUMMARIZES and then shares

P. 52R Is there a pattern between the black line of pressure and precipitation?

P. 52L Shade in where you expect precipitation to be.

P. 52L Claim Based on the evidence, I claim that as the pressure drops, there is a higher chance of precipitation. Evidence The evidence from the termperature and pressure graphs displays that as the black line drops (pressure line), there is generally a higher change of rain. Reasoning This is important because it allows us to predict when there is a chance of rain based off of pressure data.

What type of air pressure brings rain?

2. Why does warm air rise, what does cold air do?

3. Air pressure and temperature

4. Water Cycle Animation

What kind of weather do you notice is around the low pressure systems?

What kind of weather do you notice is around the low pressure systems?

What type of weather does warm air bring? Cold air? Clear Skies Precipitation

High and Low Pressure Systems Video 1 (5 min) Video 2 (3 min) Video 3 (2 min) Video 4 (5 min) Video 5 (3 min)

On p. 53R - quickly sketch (IN PENCIL) an explanation of WHY low pressure brings precipitation and high pressure brings clear skies High Pressure = Clear Skies Low Pressure = Precipitation

Group Model Work with your group to create a model of what is happening at a: Low pressure system (L) High pressure system (H). Include: pressure, density, temperature and weather Reminder: When we create models we always include: A drawing Clear labels Description

Transition 1 Move into groups Get large piece of paper BEGIN DRAWING

MODEL SHARE Group walk

P. 54R - Write the answers ( you do not need to write the questions) What do the models have in common? What is different about them? What should we ALL include on our models?

Transition #2 Get back into rows Put notebooks away Put poster on front table Get back into rows Put notebooks away

Fix/change and add to your model on 53R High Pressure Low Pressure

EXIT TICKET: Pressure and Weather WHEN FINISHED: flip it upside down

Objective? What were you proud of today?
