Appositives Acts as a second image for the noun that it renames. Great for combining two sentences. Dr. Brooks was a fussy man. He was a dentist. Dr. Brooks, the dentist, was a fussy man.

ORIGINAL SENTENCE: NEW SENTENCE: The raft drifted slowly down the winding river. NEW SENTENCE: The raft, a skimpy wooden structure, drifted slowly down the winding river.
