GRADE 7: PREPARING FOR HIGH SCHOOL What do you need to know BEFORE high school? What do you need to DO to prepare for high school?

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER Who am I ? What are my opportunities ? What are your interests and abilities What are my opportunities ? What high school courses and extracurricular activities are available to me ? What education and training opportunities are there after high school (apprenticeship, college, university and going straight into the workforce) ? What fields of work exist and what occupations are within them? How can I find out more about these things ? What do I want to become ? What are my future hopes and dreams ? What are some things that I want for myself after leaving high school ? What are my plans to achieve this goal ? What steps should I take to help me achieve my goals? What resources can help me plan my own path ?

What Regional Programs are offered in High School? Turner Fenton – IB Program International Baccalaureate Program The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a multi- disciplinary program that is recognized Nationally and Internationally as one of the top university preparation programmes. Students who successfully complete the IB programme often receive university credits or gain direct entry into second year university. Need to fill out application and be accepted. School WILL look at your June Grade 7 Report card marks and your Grade 8 Progress Report

International, Business and Technology IBT) Program The IBT program is an innovative program that enriches and extends the traditional secondary school curriculum in order to prepare students for the challenges of an increasingly complex world. Need to fill out application and be accepted. School WILL look at your June Grade 7 Report card marks and your Grade 8 Progress Report

What Regional Programs are offered in High School? Regional Arts Program The Regional Arts Program at Mayfield offers a package of eight specialized arts courses over four years to artistically talented students interested in Dance, Drama, Music or Visual Arts. In addition to the arts major, students study required and optional academic courses to earn their secondary school diploma. Need to fill out application and be accepted. School WILL look at your June Grade 7 Report card marks and your Grade 8 Progress Report. Auditions may be required.

SCI-TECH- CHINGUACOUSY SciTech North at Chinguacousy Secondary School is a four-year program that integrates a “HANDS ON, MINDS ON” philosophy that provides students with an interactive approach to learning. Concepts are applied through the merging of science and technology to better understand our modern world. Need to fill out application and be accepted. School WILL look at your June Grade 7 Report card marks and your Grade 8 Progress Report.

What Regional Programs are offered in High School? CENTRAL PEEL – 2 Regional Programs Offered 1)Regional Advancement Program Allows Grade 9 students to have a more enriched curriculum. There are more expectations and requires students to learn from a higher order and critical thinking perspective Student will receive advanced work in Grade 11 and 12 and their exams are marked by an outside source. May gain credits that go towards university. 2)STRINGS PROGRAM- Choose to apply to play Cello, Viola, Violin, Bass Need to fill out application and be accepted. School WILL look at your June Grade 7 Report card marks and your Grade 8

What Regional Programs are offered in High School? Bramalea– Truck and Coach Students in the Truck and Coach program will complete all requirements of the Ontario secondary school diploma, while taking courses focused on various aspects of the transportation industry The program is offered in partnership with Centennial College and prepares students for entry into post-secondary programs, or a career in the transportation industry upon graduation. Need to fill out application and be accepted. School WILL look at your June Grade 7 Report card marks and your Grade 8
