Gas Meter Proximity to Electrical Equipment, Apparatus and Cables. To be applied by PNG Sales, Engineering and Installation operatives when locating 6m3/hr MP and LP gas meters

Locating Surface Mounted, Recessed Boxes and Multiboxes Cables (electric, BT, cable TV, etc) with no joints, damage or junction boxes can now have a min proximity of 300mm from any side of the box on both LP and MP. The inlet can cross over a cable at 90 0, on both LP and MP, provided the 300mm from the box is still achievable. If the cable is damaged, or if any joints or junction boxes are present, a min proximity of 1550mm applies from the MP vent tip and 300mm from all sides of a LP box Min 300mm

Typical Junction Box Examples When electrical equipment or a junction box is present the existing minimum proximity of 1550mm applies to MP and 300mm for LP. Here are some typical examples of common devices/junction boxes. Door Bell Button Exterior Light Cable TV Connection box Exterior Light Switch Exterior Plug

Typical MP Surface Mounted Location

Gas Riser Cable Proximity For LP gas risers a reduced cable proximity of 150mm applies to any cables running in line to the gas pipework. The riser can cross a cable at 90 0 with a minimum proximity of 25mm at the crossing point. This can be further reduced down to zero proximity if a GRP sleeve is used to protect the gas riser from the cable.

BS6400 Part 2 Proximities Recap Surface Mounted Box & Recessed Box (Medium Pressure) Minimum proximity distances for meter boxes (ref: vent pipe tip position) The distance from any building opening includes, doors, opening windows, airbrick, balanced flue terminal or other breaches into the property. The relief valve vent position should be measured from the bottom right hand corner of a surface mounted and recessed box. Electrical equipment includes switches, lights junction boxes, plugs, etc. 1.55m 1.0m Relief vent tip position Gas Meter Box E Opening Window Electrical Equipment The box must have 300mm proximity from all sides to a run of continuous cable with no visible damage, joints or junction boxes. Therefore no cable is allowed in the yellow shaded area shown. 300mm

The relief valve vent position should be measured from the top right hand corner of a multi-box. MP Box Location Summary 1.300mm from box to cables 2.Meter inlet can cross a cable mm from the vent location to any electrical equipment or cable junction boxes mm from the vent location to any opening into the building. LP Box Location Summary External LP meter proximities 1.300mm from box to cables 2.Meter inlet can cross a cable mm from the external box to any electrical equipment or cable junction boxes mm from the box to any opening into the building. Internal LP Meter proximities 1.300mm from a meter to a radiator mm from a meter to a electrical device/cables mm from a meter to a wood burner/open fire. LP Riser proximities 1.150mm from riser to cables/electrical device. 2.25mm from riser to cable at crossing point. 3.<25mm from riser to cable – riser must be sleeved in GRP mm from the riser to any opening into the building. Summary of all Proximities
