Presentation transcript:

BREXIT: GETTING YOUR MEDICATION - FEBRUARY 2019 - DANGEROUS PILLS BREXIT: GETTING YOUR MEDICATION Three young people from Bury are in a serious condition in hospital after taking pills they thought were ecstasy (MDMA) The pills are described as badly made and crumbly, they are beige in colour and stamped with the UPS logo. They are described as smelling of vomit. These pills contain extremely dangerous doses of Alpha-PVP (Which can cause racing heart rate, hallucinations and can be fatal in combination with other drugs) . DO NOT TAKE THEM. The government is working with pharmaceutical companies, suppliers, and the NHS to make sure patients continue to receive the medication they need if the UK leaves the EU without a deal. Around three quarters of the medicines that the NHS uses, come into the UK via the EU. The Government has analysed the supply chain, made plans to reduce the risk of disruption, and given instructions to pharmaceutical companies to ensure that they have adequate stocks to cope with any potential delays at the border. If everyone does what they should do, the supply of medicines and other medical supplies will be uninterrupted in the event of exiting the EU without a deal. Occasionally we do experience temporary shortages of specific medicines. If this happens, the GP will prescribe the best alternative to your usual medication. If there are any shortages of particular medicines after EU Exit, the same system will be in place – the GP will advise you of the best alternative to treat your condition. FLU REMINDER WELCOME TO THE TEAM! DROP IN CLINIC We currently have a drop in service. If you know someone who is housebound and requires the flu vaccine, please let reception know so we can arrange one of our nurses to visit them. We’d like to welcome to the team our new practice nurse, Nicole Moore who we are sure will be a valuable team player. If you are due for a pill check or depo injection the surgery is holding a drop in clinic on Wednesday 13th and Wednesday 27th February from 2.30pm – 4.20pm for anything regarding you contraceptive health. NOTEABLES MEASLES OUTBREAK Please be aware that there has been a Measles outbreak in the London Jewish community associated with outbreaks in USA and Israel. Previous outbreaks have transferred to the Jewish Community in Greater Manchester, we want to raise awareness and promote the MMR vaccination if you have not already had the 2 documented doses.
