Project Guidelines In a rectangular frame shape (8X10 inches), using black paper and white paper, cut out at least seven black shapes (solid or linear) and arrange them on a white background. These shapes may be either rectilinear or curved. Emphasize the black shapes as the positive shapes. The linear and/or solid shapes may be repeated and their edges lines up to create a pattern rhythm or pictorial unity. Actively involve the edges of the composition. When you are most satisfied with the arrangement, glue the pieces. Reverse the shapes of part A. The white shapes will become the positive and black paper will be the background. Part A and B will be mounted as one total composition. Both compositions are effective and the shapes activate the negative space The two compositions have to mirror each other The work needs to include composite shapes The two parts A and B are mounted as one total composition The new composition, from mounting A and B together, is strong, thoughtful and reads as one (the edges flow from one side to the other) The edges of the positive shapes have specific details and they have to be carefully glued. The work should always be clean, well presented and well- crafted The student has to maximize use of the page; the compositons are thoughtfully cropped on minimum three sides The project (part A and B) has to be at least 16”X20” The two parts will be mounted on a larger board, thus providing a border around the two compositions
