Benefits of Investing in Cycling Benefits of Investing in Cycling – Dr Rachel Aldred

Original Solution CS1 Original construction method utilised imported granite kerbs and paving to create the safe traffic barrier for cyclists. This was a costly and time consuming construction method which had major impacts both environmentally and socially.

Cycle Super Highway Two (CS2) TFL had learned much from the construction of CS1 and they wanted to improvements for the construction of CS2 such as: Lower costs Simplified installation Reduction in construction times Requirement for reducing reliance on natural materials Reduction in Carbon Footprint Smaller construction footprint Working in conjunction with Ringway Jacobs and TFL Charcon developed a new cycle segregation system that exceeded their expectations.

Cycle Segregation Kerb and Accessories One piece unit Variety of accessories to improve safety Dowel holes allowing simpler installation Reduced excavation requirements Recycled material content Cost reduction over traditional construction Minimal working area required Reduction in site storage requirements Carbon reduction over imported granite options Chamfer to prevent pedal contact on cycle side Square edge to prevent cars crossing on road side Looks like Granite
