(B) Multi-scale modeling incorporating in vitro and in vivo studies of cell-cell contact dynamics and gene regulatory network explains the observed correlation between gsc expression levels and contact dynamics in vivo. (C) Delay in Nodal signaling gives rise to deterministic bistability from the positive feedback mechanism, which corresponds to the segregation of cells into ppl and endoderm populations.
