Kiwanis Terrific Kids Kiwanis Volunteers A Kiwanis club sponsors this program! A Kiwanis club is a group of men and women who work to make the community a better place. Kiwanis members do things like: Collecting food and clothing for the needy Visiting with the elderly in nursing homes Reading to young people Kiwanis volunteers will be available to help you identify and work toward your goal, and you will receive recognition from a Kiwanis club member when you are honored as a Terrific Kids recipient. The Kiwanis members in your community want to help you succeed in school, and they are sponsoring the Terrific Kids program at your school. Student Education

Terrific is an acronym for: Thoughtful Enthusiastic Respectful Responsible Inclusive Friendly Inquisitive Capable As a student participating in the Terrific Kids program, it’s a good idea to practice using the Terrific Kids character traits at school and at home. Ask each student to write a SMART goal he/she is interested in achieving on the paper. Ask students to post their papers on the wall. Group like goals together. This is an opportunity for students to review the goals of others. If goals are posted where everyone can view them students can assist one another in achieving their goals as time progresses. Wednesday: Discuss the character trait in the book. Thursday : Ask each student to practice displaying the character trait at home. Friday: Report back to class. Explain that all students in the class will be asked to participate in learning about the Terrific Kids character traits. Share the suggested schedule posted on the slide. Each week students will focus on a different character trait. Notes to program advisor: Younger students ages 6 to 9 / grades 1 - 3, need to understand that they will be recognized when they learn about, and complete these activities. Display a sample chart and explain that a check mark will be placed by each student’s name and the character trait they learn. When checks are placed next to all the Terrific Kids character traits the student is honored. Honoring the entire class at one time is a good practice for younger students. Ways to prevent hurt feelings among young program participants: Explain the program to participants. Send information about the program home to parents. Honor younger students as a group.
