N-ID Definition Proposal Xueli Zhang, CATR zhangxueli@mail.ritt.com.cn CJK 3rd NGN N-ID Meeting April 9-11, Jeju,Korea

Definition from 2rd meeting Definition of N-ID (Networked ID; or Network aspects of identification systems): N-ID is a name of an ICT technology area including network information services triggered by automatically recognized IDs (identifiers) stored in small tags such as RFIDs, barcodes, 2D barcodes and so on. The networked ID sees that recognition of (or obtaining) identifier is out of scope and an implementation issue at ID terminals. So, identifiers can be transmitted via RF, camera, IrDA, scanner, manual key-in, etc. and N-ID deals with technical issues beyond the scope of ID tag and reader. Expected N-ID technical issues are identification code scheme, code resolution, application roaming, differentiated service, privacy management, adult verification, accounting and billing, etc. N-ID is featured by the following several issues. ID for broader targets: N-ID uses IDs for real objects including products, virtual objects like digital contents, locations and places, animals, humans, and so on. Generalization of ID tags: Any identifier can be stored at 1D or 2D barcode or electronic device like smart card or RFID tag. The stored identifier has to be transmitted to ID reader or application system via RF, camera, IrDA, optical scanner, manual key-in, etc. So RFID is theoretically a wireless connectivity technology to transmit identifier stored at an electronic memory space. 2D barcode is an optical connectivity technology to transmit identifier stored at a 2D barcode label. Open and global network: The networked RFID expands such RFID communication scope to global open networks and globally distributed RFID-relevant application systems. Then RFID triggers global communication associations. B2B and B2C need to be clarified more. Contributions on this are welcomed. This issue will be touched at the next meeting. N-ID and identity management also need to be clarified and distinguished. Contributions on this are welcomed. This issue will be touched at the next meeting.

Consideration Definition purpose: used for CJK member Better understanding Common concerns

Proposal Expected N-ID technical issues are identification code scheme, code resolution, application roaming, differentiated service, privacy management, adult verification, accounting and billing, etc. Proposal: Service Scenarios Functional Architecture Signalling flow Requirement to specified network, such as NGN
