Language Lesson (10 min) ICA/ELA Benchmark percentage: 37% 33. A student is writing a letter to her principal about her response to changes in the cafeteria. Read the draft of the letter and complete the task that follows. Dear Principal Haynes, Students have noticed the improved choices in the cafeteria this year. Students can now choose from a bigger selection of foods. The salad bar, in particular, has increased the type of fruits and vegetables that students are eating. As you know, eating healthy foods is important to good health overall. But, it is also important for good learning. I know that after I eat a healthy lunch, I can do better in my afternoon lessons. When I eat junk food for lunch, I feel sleepy in the afternoons. It is harder for me to pay attention to what my teacher is saying. I applaud you for taking action to bring more healthy foods to our school. Sincerely, Irene Hernandez The student wants to make sure that her word choices are appropriate to inform her audience about her response to changes in the cafeteria.
