Calvinism A strict form of Protestantism that follows the theological tradition and forms of Christian practice of John Calvin and other Reformation-era theologians. Calvinists broke from the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of England in the 16th century. John Calvin held a view on predestination. This is the view that God has actively chosen some people for salvation. These people are referred to as ‘The Elect’.
