The Heart.
Superior vena cava The superior vena cava carries deoxygenated blood to the heart. The blood comes from the upper body.
A pump made of cardiac muscle that pushes blood to our cells
Circulatory System The circulation system supplies oxygen and nutrients to tissues round the body and carries away wastes.

The Circulatory System. Function  Consists of the heart and blood vessels  Carries oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells and remove carbon dioxide.
The Heart. Blood is pumped through the blood vessels of the body by the contractions of the heart. Blood is pumped through the blood vessels of the body.
Why is it important? Your body’s cells depend on the blood vessels to bring nutrients & remove wastes.

HEART NOTES

Heart The heart is a muscular organ (cardiac tissue). It is the size of your fist. Thick muscular walls

Chambers of the Heart Upper chamber- atrium receives blood coming in from the veins (do not pump blood). Lower chamber- ventricle squeezes blood out into the arteries (pump). There are valves in the heart that close to prevent backflow.

Function Function is circulation Blood moves due to increased pressure within the heart.

Blood Flow Oxygen poor blood Lungs Oxygen rich blood to the body Oxygen poor blood Veins Heart Arteries Arteries=Away Veins=To the heart

Exit Slip What are the 4 chambers of the heart? Which chambers are responsible for pumping the blood?
