Chambers of the Heart Upper chamber- atrium receives blood coming in from the veins (do not pump blood). Lower chamber- ventricle squeezes blood out into the arteries (pump). There are valves in the heart that close to prevent backflow.
Function Function is circulation Blood moves due to increased pressure within the heart.
