Capital Build Programmes Due to uncertainties surrounding the development of a multi-sports stadium SNI does not have a budget for ‘Places for Sport’ programme in 2009/10 and 2010/11 Budget for any new ‘Building Sport’ programme is also unconfirmed at this date

Need for the Programme Strategy for Sport prioritises participation Lack of facilities – barrier to participation SNI facilities audit and needs analysis carried out Identified shortfall in pitches Places for Sport: Surfaces 08/09 would help to address this need -decisions imminent Places for Sport: Surfaces 09/10 programme - if budget approved spend will be necessary by 31 March 2010

Objectives of Programme Develop facilities to address the current perceived shortfall within Northern Ireland Increase participation in sport Be sustainable Tackle social exclusion Encourage partnership working Provide the structures for long term athlete development.

Who Can Apply? A range of applicants can apply: Sports Clubs Local Authorities Governing Bodies Education authorities on behalf of schools Community groups Charities

What we Will Fund Pitches: Grass Synthetic pitches (3G or sand dressed) Water Based (full size or training) Floodlighting only to second pitches unless a County Ground Changing rooms Sports hall For synthetic pitches and sports hall there must be a multi-sports or multi-club angle to the development

What we Will Fund All projects must conform to minimum Governing Body dimensions Please refer to GAA website for further details ELIGIBILE PROJECTS UNCONFIRMED AT THIS STAGE FOR ANY FUTURE ‘PLACES FOR SPORT’ PROGRAMME.

Assessment Assessment criteria: Strategic fit – partnerships, participation, under represented groups Sports Development Need Facility need Finance Previous experience with capital projects

Limitations Likely to be short timescale if a budget is confirmed as it is ‘end of year sensitive’ Potentially large amount of applicants Business case requirement over £250k Maximum award and indicative limits unconfirmed at this stage

What to do Now Appoint a ‘Development Committee’ to include legal, technical, financial, and sports development expertise; Ensure you secure the site via a lease or outright ownership (unless you are applying for land ownership) Consider potential development options Ensure you comply with minimum dimensions if/when preparing plans

What to do Now Prepare your 5 year Sports Development Plan/Action Plan (templates available) Devise Fundraising Strategy SNI will notify all governing bodies of sport when/if a new programme is launched
