Our mission New Jersey SHARES, Inc. (NJ SHARES) is a nationally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides assistance to individuals and families living in the state of New Jersey in order to help meet their utility burden. We serve as a “safety net” for households that face an unexpected emergency or crisis situation – and are not eligible for other forms of assistance.

Energy Assistance
New jersey shares energy Assistance Grants An NJ SHARES energy assistance grant MUST maintain or restore service and CANNOT be applied toward deposits or service charges. Maximum grant of $700 for heating service. Maximum grant of $700 for electric service. $74M ***If a client heats with electric, a maximum grant of $700 may be awarded.*** TOTAL ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROVIDED TO HOUSEHOLDS
REQUIREMENTS Personal ID for the applicant and all household members. Proof of the last 30 day income for all contributing household members. Applicant’s most recent energy provider bill – MUST be NJ regulated company. $100 good faith payment, made within the last 90 days. Good payment history for applicant. Signed and dated application by applicant.
Atlantic city electric Helping hands PROGRAM DETAILS: Assistance for households with incomes at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level. Maximum grant of $200 for electric service. A household may receive a grant ONCE in a twelve month period. May be combined with NJ SHARES Energy and Utility Assistance Grants. if the

Verizon new jersey communications lifeline program PROGRAM DETAILS: Residential Phone Discounted residential phone service, including FREE touch-tone service, and broadband internet service. Available to qualified applicants throughout Verizon New Jersey’s service area. Safety and privacy features. Choice of three local service options. Broadband Internet
Water Assistance
New jersey American water h20 Help to Others Program PROGRAM DETAILS: Qualified New Jersey American Water customers can receive an assistance grant of up to $500 to help pay their water bills. Eligible customers MUST have income levels at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level.
REQUIREMENTS Personal ID for the applicant and all household members. Proof of the last 30 day income for all contributing household members. Applicant’s most recent water bill. $100 good faith payment, made within the last 90 days. Good payment history for applicant. Signed and dated application by applicant.
SUEZ water Suez cares PROGRAM DETAILS: Qualified SUEZ customers can receive an assistance grant of up to $100 to help pay their water bills. NO INCOME GUIDELINES. ***Customer MUST have good payment history and have paid at least $20 on their water bill within 90 days of applying.***
Newark municipal water assistance program PROGRAM DETAILS Clients may be eligible for a $100 assistance grant. Grant awarded ONCE per calendar year. The maximum income level is 150% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Parsippany-Troy hills Municipal water assistance program PROGRAM DETAILS: Clients may be eligible for a $100 assistance grant. Grant awarded ONCE per calendar year. The maximum income level is 400% of the Federal Poverty Level.
