Palmer Middle School 7th Grade Health Class Rules and Expectations

Today’s Agenda Mr. Martin Seating assignments Class introduction Student/Teacher expectations Distribute paperwork to go home Class syllabi Human Growth and Development parent letter Article Review Rubric with instructions Article Review topics and due dates

Seating Assignments Students will be seated in alphabetical order Students may have their assigned seat changed should I deem it necessary. If, after the 4 ½ week mark, the class behavior has been at or above expectations, students may have the opportunity to choose a new desk. I have final say where students will sit during class

Health Class Content Physical, Mental/Emotional and Social Health Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Nutrition Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Safety Disease Prevention Human Growth and Development

My Expectations of Students Be prompt Be ready to learn when class begins. Be prepared Have materials with you and know due dates. Be a polite and positive participant Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. Be productive Turn in work on time, and always do your best. Be a problem solver Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate.

Expectations for Coursework Bring your binder or notebook, agenda and appropriate writing tools to class. Know due dates, and submit all coursework on time. All assignments and their due dates will be posted in the classroom as well as on my teacher web-blog.

Homework Due Dates Article Review 1 Article Review 2 Article Review 3 Due August 19, 2016 Topics are: Teen Peer Pressure, Teen Stress or Bullying (Cyberbullying) Article Review 2 Due September 9, 2016 Nutrition or Fitness Article Review 3 Due September, 23, 2016 Any communicable or any non communicable disease

Policies Only water is allowed in the classroom. No food, candy or gum is permitted. Please be in your seat when the bell rings, as class begins at that time. Begin Quick Write. All assignments and projects with a grade of 75 or lower can be resubmitted or corrected for a new grade. Absences Ask classmates first for missed assignments. If you are absent on a quiz or test day, you will have one-day after your return to make up the quiz or test.

Grading Grades are based on the percentage of each category. Categories Test/Projects – 40 % Quizzes – 30% Journals/daily-work – 20% Homework – 10% Grades are posted online and updated every Monday. Grading Scale 90-100% A 80-89% B 74-79% C 70-73% D 69% and below F Grades are calculated on cumulative percentage and are rounded up whenever possible.
