Understanding SHARE What does it do? SHARE transforms TRF contributions into Ambassadorial Scholarships, Matching Grants projects, Group Study Exchanges and more. Overview of SHARE: SHARE is TRFs unique funding mechanism. It gives Rotary districts control over how their contributions are spent. The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International
SHARE The 3-Year Cycle TRF operates on a unique funding cycle, using contributions for program activities three years after they are collected The three-year cycle gives districts time for program planning and participant selection TRF uses the earnings from SHARE’s 3-year investment cycle to pay for administration and fund development Overview of the 3-year cycle The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International

SHARE How it works 2005-06 2006-07 2007-08 2008-09 Funds Raised Funds available for planning decisions 1 March: Donate scholarship 1 Oct. Scholars application due 1 Oct. Extra GSE application Funds used for Foundation programs 31 March: DSG requests due A timeline on how the 3-year cycle works. This starts with 2004-05; decisions on how to spend the funds raised in 2005-06 need to be made in 2006-07. Funds raised in 2006-07 will go through the same cycle and be spent in 2009-10. Unused DDF transferred to next year (Districts notified in August) SHARE How it works 2008-09 2004-05 Donations by 30 June Invested for 3 Years DDF used 1 July 2005-06 2006-07 2007-08 Note the box about invested for 3-years. The use of contributions allows the Foundation to use the earnings to pay for General administration and fund-development expenses. Who is Involved in SHARE Planning: DRFC Chair Signature required for DDF use Works with District Rotary Foundation Committee to plan DDF use Serves 3-year term District Governor Provides leadership and direction to DRFC Chair and all subcommittees Key to the success of SHARE: The district Foundation Committee decides on how best to use DDF. The DRFC chair is responsible for signing off on SHARE DDF use, on behalf of the entire committee. A few years ago, TRF required 5 signatures for the use of DDF. This has been simplified to one signature. The district governor is integral to the decision-making process. He or she is an ex-officio member of the District Rotary Foundation Committee.
