Creating Sheet Metal Pattern Single View Drawing

Prepare to Draw Brush off eraser crumbs/debris from table Tape down new title block Use 0.5 6H (green) pencil and Ames Lettering Guide to create guidelines for your title block

Centering Notes - Horizontally Subtract width of the drawing from width of the paper (10 ½) and divide the answer by 2 to get distance X. Example: 10 ½ - 7 (width of the drawing)= 3 ½ 3 ½ ÷ 2 = 1 ¾ Distance X = 1 ¾ From the left border line of the title block, measure to the right distance X. From the mark for distance X, measure to the right the width of the drawing. Draw the vertical lines up to indicate the right and left sides of the drawing. 1 ¾ 7

Centering Notes – Vertically Subtract the height of the drawing from the height of the paper (7) and divide the answer by 2 to get distance Y. Example: 7 – 4 ½ (height of the drawing)= 2 ½ 2 ½ ÷ 2 = 1 ¼ Distance Y = 1 ¼ From the top of the title block, measure down distance Y. From the mark for distance Y, measure down the height of the drawing. Draw the horizontal lines across to indicate the top and the bottom of the drawing. 1 ¼ 4 ½

Get out Introduction Drawing Notebook Grab the large black notebook on your computer table – Introduction to Engineering Drawing and Design Turn to tab 5 and flip until you see a page with these drawings: You will be using 0.5 6H (green) pencil for most of this lesson

Centering Directions - Horizontally Subtract width of the drawing (8) from width of the paper (10 ½) and divide the answer by 2 to get distance X. 10 ½ - 8 = 2 ½ 2 ½ ÷ 2 = 1 ¼ Distance X = 1 ¼

Centering Directions - Horizontally From the left border line of the title block, measure to the right 1 ¼ and make a small, light tick mark using your 0.5 6H (green) pencil 1 ¼

Centering Directions - Horizontally From that mark, measure to the right the 8 and make a small, light tick mark using your 0.5 6H (green) pencil 1 ¼ 8

Centering Directions - Horizontally Use the triangles to draw vertical construction lines, with 0.5 6H (green) pencil, to indicate the right and left sides of the drawing 1 ¼ 8

Centering Directions - Vertically Subtract the height of the drawing (5) from the height of the paper (7) and divide the answer by 2 to get distance Y. 7 - 5 = 2 2 ÷ 2 = 1 Distance Y = 1

Centering Directions - Vertically From the top border line of title block, measure to the down 1 and make a small, light tick mark using your 0.5 6H (green) pencil 1

Centering Directions - Vertically From that mark, measure down 5 and make a small, light tick mark using your 0.5 6H (green) pencil 1 5

Centering Directions - Vertically Use your parallel bar to draw horizontal construction lines, to indicate the top and the bottom of the drawing 1 Now the outline of the drawing has been created (top, bottom, left and right) 5

Horizontal Construction Lines Look at the drawing to determine other measurements (dimensions) for horizontal lines

Horizontal Construction Lines From top, horizontal construction line measure down 1” and make a small, light tick mark using your 0.5 6H (green) pencil (measure along title block) 1

Horizontal Construction Lines From that mark measure down 3” and make a small, light tick mark using your 0.5 6H (green) pencil (measure along title block) 1 3

Horizontal Construction Lines Use your parallel bar to draw horizontal construction lines where those two marks were made (middle of drawing) 1 3

Vertical Construction Lines Look at the drawing to determine other measurements (dimensions) for vertical lines

Vertical Construction Lines From left, vertical construction line on the right, measure over to the right 2” and make a small, light tick mark using your 0.5 6H (green) pencil (measure along title block) 2

Vertical Construction Lines From that mark measure to the right 4” and make a small, light tick mark using your 0.5 6H (green) pencil (measure along title block) 2 4

Vertical Construction Lines Use the triangles to draw vertical construction lines to indicate the right and left sides of the drawing 2 4

Darken Vertical Object Lines Use your 0.7 (blue) pencil and darken in the vertical object lines for the drawing

Darken Horizontal Object Lines Use your 0.7 (blue) pencil and darken in the horizontal object lines for the drawing

Un-tape Your Drawing and Fill Out the Title Block Lettering should be dark and precise (use your 0.5 F pencil (black)) TITLE: SHEET METAL PATTERN DR BY: FIRST LAST SCALE: FULL DATE: 29AUG16 CLASS: (1-7) SEAT: (1-24) DWG. NO.: 3-66
