DIFINITIONS of Urban Renewal The process where an urban neighbourhood or area is improved and rehabilitated. The renewal process can include demolishing old or run-down buildings, constructing new, up-to-date housing, or adding in features like a theatre or stadium. Urban renewal is usually undergone for the purposes of persuading wealthier individuals to come live in that area. It is the process by which improvement of slums can be achieved through improving the super and infra structures and public utilities. Planned renewal of slums and those which suffer from lack of services and improving the urban environment by public and private efforts.

URBAN DESIGN AND RENEWAL POLICIES City could be considered as a living thing. Urban environment has the same properties of any living object. The settlement is a complicated organization of many overlapped systems, people, and population with all their categories, different needs different socio- economic levels, different costumes, and different ways of living. The most important thing in our nowadays thinking is the discovering how people live in the environment trying to improve, to preserve, revitalize and protect their surrounding (buildings and environment)..

URBAN RENEWAL TYPES It consists of Six main types.

4- Renovation Renovate (repair and decorate building that is old and have bad condition) Renovation policy is a policy applied to old bad conditions urban environment where redevelopment, rehabilitation and conservation policies are to be used together wherever each of them is required and reasonable.
