Ethernet Analysis Using the HP Internet Advisor

Course Objectives Learn to troubleshoot Ethernet LANs Use the Expert Analyzer to find network problems Use Connection Statistics to analyze usage patterns Use the Node List to track network changes Use Decodes see every frame on the network Create a baseline of your network Use capture filters to focus troubleshooting efforts Use the Advisor to help document your network

Agenda Day 1 The LAN Advisor Expert Analyzer LAB 1 Commentator Protocol Statistics Node Discovery Connection Statistics LAB 2 Node Statistics Line Vital Statistics Protocol Vital Statistics LAB 3 Troubleshooting Decodes Display Filters LAB 4 Day 2 Capture Filters Logging Data Workspace Options LAB 5 Configuration Documenting Post Processing LAB 6 Traffic Generator PING LAB 7 Conclusion This class is a mixture of LAN Advisor training and Ethernet troubleshooting. The presentation will deal mostly with the measurements in the Hewlett-Packard LAN Advisor. The labs will focus on using the Advisor to troubleshoot common LAN problems. The organization is based around the LAN Advisor toolbar, starting with Expert Analyzer and going through the Configuration options. Some mixing of topics will naturally occur since most of the measurements are interconnected and interdependent.
