10 Tips for Public Speaking

10 Tips for Public Speaking Toastmasters International suggests these tips Know your material Make sure it interests you. Don’t limit knowledge presentation information. Practice, Practice, and practice more Outloud Utilize all equipment that will be used during actual presentation Omit filler words – alright, okay, like, you know. A pause is okay.

10 Tips Continued Know the audience. Know the room. Greet people on arrival Know the room. Be there early. Walk around the speaking area. Practice using all equipment before actual presentation.

10 Tips Continued Relax Visualize yourself giving your speech. Address audience. Count to 3 before beginning. Use nervousness as a source of enthusiasm. Visualize yourself giving your speech. Imagine yourself speaking: voice loud, clear, confident. Visualize audience clapping (boosts confidence).

10 Tips Continued Realize people want you to succeed. Audience wants you to be: Interesting Stimulating Informative Entertaining They are rooting for you.

10 Tips Continued Concentrate on the message – not the medium. Focus attention away from your own anxieties. Concentrate on your message and audience. Gain experience. Speech should represent you as: Authority A person Experience builds confidence. Key to effective speaking.

Paranoid or Terrified? Paranoia is experience by some people Support groups are available. Toastmasters International helps people overcome fears of speaking publically.
