Little Miss Ungrateful Miti Patel

Little Miss Ungrateful and her husband Mr Caring, who worked in the ministry of Education, lived in an apartment and had a maid. Little Miss Ungrateful was unhappy all the time because she thought she deserved a much better life. She constantly wished to be popular, envied, attractive and in demand.

One day Mr Caring got an invitation from The Ministry of Education One day Mr Caring got an invitation from The Ministry of Education. When he got home and showed it to Little Miss Ungrateful, she complained about not having a dress to wear. He then decided to give her the four hundred francs he was saving up for a hunting trip so that she could buy a nice dress. After she bought it she still wasn’t happy.

She then moaned about not having any jewellery to wear so Mr Caring suggested that she could wear a posy. Little Miss Ungrateful however thought that a posy wasn’t good enough and insisted on having jewellery. He then gave her the idea of borrowing something from her rich friend Little Miss Posh. She agreed with this and chose Little Miss Posh’s diamond necklace.

The night of the reception finally arrived and Little Miss Ungrateful was actually happy for once. She danced ecstatically the whole night and had all eyes on her. She knew she was the most beautiful person there and loved it so much that she didn’t leave until four in the morning, even though her husband had been dozing off since midnight.

As they got home, Little Miss Ungrateful went to look in the mirror and suddenly realised that the diamond necklace was missing. She was panicking at home with Mr Caring went out again to look for the necklace. He searched every place he could think of but didn’t manage to find it. Little Miss Ungrateful told her friend that she was getting the necklace repaired.

A week had passed by and there was still no sign of the diamond necklace. Little Miss Ungrateful and Mr Caring came to the conclusion that they had no other choice but to buy a new one to replace it. It was very expensive which meant that Mr Caring had to borrow money from a lot of places. At last they were able to give Little Miss Posh a diamond necklace to replace the other one.

Little Miss Ungrateful and her husband were now in so much debt that they had to move out of their apartment and rent an attic room. They also had to work very hard for long hours to get the money they owed. Little Miss Ungrateful would often think about that night when she had been so beautiful and so admired.

Ten years later Little Miss Ungrateful and Mr Caring had managed to pay back every single penny they had borrowed. One day Little Miss Ungrateful went out for a walk and saw Little Miss Posh. At first she didn’t recognise her because Little Miss Ungrateful had aged so much. She then told Little Miss Posh about what really happened to the necklace and blamed her for their suffering. That was when Little Miss Posh finally told her that it was only an imitation necklace.
