What’s happening in SEND this year? Year 11 literacy interventions Small group work In-class LSA support. Priority to core (Eng, Ma, Sci and HSC) 1:1 study skill support 1:1 mentoring for social, emotional and mental health Subject specific interventions Extension Activities Reading age standardised testing Lunch club – vulnerable students

Inclusion Hub This year we have a dedicated area in school to support our students who have a special educational need or disability. In the hub is where specific interventions and support will take place e.g. small group work, one to one study skills or mentoring and lunch club. ADD PHOTO HERE

Individual One Page Profiles Each student will have or has already had a sit down meeting with one of the LSA’s to complete their individual One Page Profile. This profile informs us of how we as a school can support your child in their achievement. Each one is personalised and will set specific targets to achieve. Each teacher will have access to the one page profile to ensure that they are tailoring their teaching to meet your child's needs. As a parent/carer we will be emailing you a copy of this also. Reading Age Standardised Tests Every student in years 10 – 12 have sat a standardised reading age test and will sit 2 more during their time at HFUTC This test gives us a clear indication of the reading ability of your child. The importance of this is that literacy runs through all aspects of education and in every subject students study. Knowing your child’s reading age allows us to cater resources to support them in accessing the curriculum and providing appropriate interventions. Over the next couple of days you will be receiving a letter that gives you your child’s reading age.

Termly Review Days In order to review your child’s progress we would like to invite you to termly SEND reviews. These reviews will be in addition to parents evenings as an extra layer of support that we can offer to both your child and you. These reviews will be with either the LSA that your child works with or me as SENCO if the need arises. Dates for these reviews will be published on our website by the end of October. You will also receive a text alert closer to the date and phone call to organise a convenient appointment time.

Please join us downstairs Parental Information If you have any concerns or queries regarding the level of support or intervention that your child is having at HFUTC, or any information that you feel we need to know then please inform us. At the end of this presentation there will be tea and coffee in the café area and parental information forms that you will be able to complete. Myself and the team will also be around to try and answer any questions you may have but I urge you to complete a form so that we have a record and are able to act accordingly. Please join us downstairs for tea and coffee
