THE COMMITMENT OF TRUE DISCIPLES – Luke 9:59-62 The Lord is raising committed disciples!

KEY THOUGHT True disciples are lifelong followers of Christ KEY THOUGHT True disciples are lifelong followers of Christ. It involves total commitment, single-focus and complete dedication. The commitment is primarily to Christ, to His Body (the church) and to Christ’s mission on earth. There is no greater privilege than following Christ and walking in His steps.

COMMITMENT TO JESUS AS SAVIOUR AND LORD – John 20:28 Jesus as master is the focus of the disciple’s commitment (Rom 12:1-2) True disciples commit to: Follow Him – Eph. 5:1; I Peter 2:21 Be like Him – Luke 6:40 Do as He commands – Matt. 21:6; 26:19 Please Him – II Tim. 2:4; Heb. 10:9 Continue in His word – John 8:31

COMMITMENT TO MEMBERS OF CHRIST’S BODY- Eph. 5:29-30 True disciples commit to one another, as members of Christ’s body-Rom 12:5 We commit to each other through: Fellowship together – Heb. 10:25 Looking out/caring for one another – Gal 6:10 Serving one another-Gal. 5:13; Jn. 13:14 Forgiving one another – Eph. 4:32; Rom. 12:10 Encouraging/edify one another – I Thess. 5:11; Gal. 6:2

COMMITMENT TO CHRIST’S MISSION ON EARTH– John 9:4 Disciples focus on the master’s business – John 3:17: Jesus showed us an example – Luke 2:29 As disciples, our mission is to: Occupy till He comes – Luke 2:29 Do His work – John 5:17; 9:4 Preach the word – II Tim. 4:2; Matt. 28:18-20 Are you a committed disciple?
