Cross CHAART Working Groups A Proposal and an Invitation

Why Form Cross CHAART Groups? To keep the meeting momentum going Share expertise Agree on metrics Share best practices Pool data Be more than the sum of our parts Stay alive in times of tough funding

Why Graft off VACS Rather Than Start Fresh? Established administrative support system Productive, collaborative groups that welcome new members Can focus on creating new groups for domains not already covered, e.g…. PEth Woman’s Health Workgroup

A Two Part Invitation Part 1. A CHAART-Wide Invitation to Join Existing Working Groups Part 2. An Invitation to Propose New Working Groups

Part 1. An Invitation to Join Existing Working Groups

Part 2. An Invitation to Propose Cross CHAART Initatives

Let’s Start With 2 Projects PEth (Judy Hahn already discussed) White Paper: “Alcohol and HIV in the Era of ART”

Alcohol and HIV in the Era of ART What have we established? Harmful alcohol use is associated with HIV transmission and progression HIV increases susceptibility to harm from alcohol What do we still need to do? Demonstrate that we can definitively mitigate these harms through intervention What is needed to accomplish this task? Better measures of exposure (not self report) Harder endpoints (not just change in alcohol)

Next Steps Judy will draft a proposal for the PEth analyses I will draft an outline of the White Paper Consortia Directors will appoint representatives to participate in each of these projects At least one, not more than two for PEth At least one, not more than three for white paper Kendall Bryant, as NIAAA rep, gets a wild card Angela will coordinate conference calls
