Be Comforted

“Look, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to repay each person according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Revelation 22:12–13 CSB

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope... 1 Thessalonians 4:13–14 CSB

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, in the same way, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 1 Thessalonians 4:13–14 CSB

Christian hope looks forward to the resurrection (1 Thess. 4:13-14).

Hope means “expectation and confidence”.

For the believer there is no death.

The same power of God that raised Jesus from the dead will also raise believers in Jesus from the dead.

Christian hope looks forward to Christ’s return (1 Thess. 4:15-17).

For we say this to you by a word from the Lord: We who are still alive at the Lord’s coming will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep... 1 Thessalonians 4:15–17 CSB

For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first... 1 Thessalonians 4:15–17 CSB

Then we who are still alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:15–17 CSB

“Caught up” means “to snatch up, to seize, and to carry off by force”.

The Lord Jesus’ coming will be an open and public event.

Christian hope is full of comfort (1 Thess. 4:18)

Therefore encourage one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:18 CSB

The Lord does not delay his promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance... 2 Peter 3:9–12 CSB

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that day the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed... 2 Peter 3:9–12 CSB

Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, it is clear what sort of people you should be in holy conduct and godliness as you wait for the day of God and hasten its coming... 2 Peter 3:9–12 CSB

Because of that day, the heavens will be dissolved with fire and the elements will melt with heat. 2 Peter 3:9–12 CSB

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned. Romans 5:12 CSB

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 CSB

For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life... John 3:16–18 CSB

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him... John 3:16–18 CSB

Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God. John 3:16–18 CSB

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven... Matthew 7:21–23 CSB

On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, and do many miracles in your name?’... Matthew 7:21–23 CSB

Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!’ Matthew 7:21–23 CSB
