3.4 SILC revision

Towards SILC 2.0 High visibility (Europe 2020, crisis impact, QoL High expectations from the users: Timeliness, better coverage of dimensions of poverty, social exclusion and quality of life, regional dimension, links to other data sources (STIK, consumption, wealth, NA aggregrates) Driver To remain relevant for policy making and monitoring To gain efficiency To align to the modernisation of social statistics - modularisation

Work of the Task Force 16 member-states, two members of the indicators sub-group of the social protection committee, researchers and specialists, Commission DGs 3 meetings so far (October 2011, April an July 2012) Structured in 5 strands

On going work Content: for improving the thematic coverage, a distinction is propose between a nucleus - yearly, and fixed rolling modules. For keeping flexibility, new policy needs could be introduced every two years Timeliness: inside SILC: earlier data transmission, modelling on current income, micro simulation Methodology: simplification of quality reports, precision requirements Longitudinal component: study to produce scenarios, reconciliation of cross sectional and longitudinal Modes of data collection: trade off with administrative data, multimode data collection, links with other data sources
