CXC System of Examinations Criterion Referenced VS Norm Referenced At CXC, we develop criterion referenced assessments. These assessments are designed to measure candidate performance against a predetermined set of objectives, criteria or standards. Unlike norm-referenced, we do not measure against the cohort. Criterion referenced Measures a student’s performance based on mastery of a specific set of standards. Norm Referenced Measures a student’s performance in comparison to the performance of a larger group. www.cxc.org
