Presentation transcript:

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION VOCATIONAL TRAINING Vocational Training teams are relatively new in Rotary The Rotary Foundation funds Vocational Training Teams through a Global Grant.

WHAT IS VOCATIONAL TRAINING? A group of Professionals who travel to another Country to either teach local professionals about a particular field or to learn more about their own. Vocational Training increases the capacity of the learning community to solve problems, to improve the quality of life in the community and are sustainable A vocational training team allows more flexibility with the size of the team and they have a common interest or purpose. Vocational Training teams must align with one of the 6 areas of focus of the Rotary Foundation.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE SUCCESS Successful Vocational training increases the capacity of the learning community to solve problems and improve quality of life in the community

HOW IS VOCATIONAL TRAINING FUNDED? Vocational Training is funded through an application for a Rotary Foundation Global Grant The District or a Club can apply for a global grant A Global Grant must be a minimum of $30,000USD The Rotary Foundation offers grants that support a wide variety of projects, scholarships, and training that Rotarians are doing around the world. There are two types of grants available: district grants and global grants. District Grants fund short term projects and activities, either local or international that support the Rotary Foundation’s mission. District Grants are generally of a smaller dollar value than Global Grants. Clubs submit their funding requests to the District, which administers and distributes the funds. Next slide

WHAT IS THE CRITERIA FOR A VOCATIONAL TRAINING TEAM GLOBAL GRANT? Must complete a community needs assessment (Form available on My Rotary) Sustainable, measurable outcomes Alignment with areas of focus International partnership Global grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in Rotary’s areas of focus. A key feature of global grants is partnership, between the district or club where the activity is carried out and a district or club in another country. Both sponsors must be qualified before they can submit an application. The minimum budget for a global grant activity is US$30,000. The Foundation’s World Fund provides a minimum of $15,000 and maximum of $200,000. Clubs and districts contribute District Designated Funds (DDF) and/or cash contributions that the World Fund matches. DDF is matched at 100% and cash is matched at 50%.

AREAS OF FOCUS Peace and conflict prevention/resolution Disease prevention and treatment Water and sanitation Maternal and child health Basic education and literacy Economic and community development The Rotary Foundation have identified specific causes to target to maximize local and global impact. Through global grants the Foundation helps clubs focus their service efforts in the following areas: Peace and conflict prevention/resolution Disease prevention and treatment Water and sanitation Maternal and child health Basic education and literacy Economic and community development Activities funded by Global Grants include: Humanitarian Projects addressing community needs by providing sustainable, measurable outcomes in the benefiting community. Vocational Training builds skills within a community by offering local training or by supporting professionals traveling abroad for rigorous study on their profession or to teach local professionals about a particular field. This type of training may be most effective in conjunction with a humanitarian project. Scholarships fund study by graduate students whose career goals support an area of focus.

THE BENEFITS OF A VOCATIONAL TRAINING TEAM Meet an identified need within the Community Support at least one of the 6 areas of focus Provide additional support and training within the community The length of the study period is variable Are measureable and sustainable The number of team members is variable Team members can be Rotarians To recap about the benefits of Vocational Training teams:
