THE CASTLE OF ROCCASCALEGNA AND ITS HISTORY The mediaval castle is a defensive structure placed on the top of a rocky ledge. Over the years the towers were streanghtened and a roud was added. In 1705 there was a restoration of the enterance steps of the castle and protective walls were added. During the rule of the Corvi, lasting from 1600 until 1717 there were other interventions Since then, the castle was abandoned for three centuries. In 1940 the «The Tower of the Heart» collapsed. In 1985 the Croce Nanni, the last feudal family, gave the castle to the local council of Roccascalegna, which began the restoration and returned the castle to its former glory in 1996.

THE LEGEND OF THE RIGHT OF THE FIRST NIGHT According to this legend, it seems that in 1646 the baron Corvo De Corvis reintroduced a medieval practice stating that if a couple wanted to get married, the bride would have to spend the wedding night with the Baron instead of her husband. One night, a husband or wife, stabbed the baron and while he was dying, he left a bloody handprint on a rock.

THE CHURCHES OF ROCCASCALEGNA Oppostite the enterance of the castle there is the church of Sant Pietro Apostolo, built during the XIII century. The church dedicated to the saints Cosma and Damiano About a km far from the village, there is the church of San Pancrazio made entirely from stone.
